Nursery awarded internationally recognised badge for sustainability lessons

A nursery has been awarded a Green Flag for its commitment to sustainability and environmental education.

Eco Montessori Norman Court earned the internationally recognised Eco-Schools Green Flag after a year of eco-friendly improvements.

These included freshly prepared home-cooked meals, food waste composting, and a dedicated weekly plant-based day to help cut the nursery's carbon footprint.

The team at Eco Montessori said: "Working towards the Green Flag has been a fantastic way to bring sustainability into everyday learning.

Children played a hands-on role in the nursery's efforts by making bird feeders, learning about trees, and even creating their own oat milk.

These activities supported the development of language, motor skills, communication, and physical coordination.

The nursery plans to continue its environmental journey with new projects already underway.

This year's programme began with World Clean Up Day in September, where children learned about waste and recycling.

Staff and pupils are eager to build on their success and further embed eco-conscious practices into daily learning.

The Eco-Schools Green Flag is internationally recognised.
