It was 27 years ago this month -- December of 1997 -- and 9-year-old Megan Montgomery sat in her Hoover, Alabama, kitchen next to her 19-year-old sister Meredith and her mother Susann. The finishing touches were being put on the sister's gingerbread houses, smiles filling the room just weeks before Christmas.
"I was 10 years old when Megan was born, and it was a dream come true," Meredith Montgomery-Price told me. "I had always wanted a baby sister, and in 1988 that baby sister arrived.
