Golden Age Thursday: Watch Agression Rule L.A.'s First All Skate Punk Gig - Glide Magazine

Last week, we spent a lovely Golden Age Thursday looking through the connective tissue between skateboarding and punk rock, and this week we continue that deep dive with another Oxnard-bred hardcore outfit. Agression, one of the leaders of the Nardcore movement, was formed by vocalist Mark Hickey, guitarist Henry Knowles, and bassist Bob Clark. While the origins of Agression have been disputed between the band members, the three met while skateboarding professionally for a company called Sims. Hickey, Knowles, and Clark all skated for Sims in 1979, but Agression didn't make their official debut as a band until BYO Records released their seminal compilation, Someone Got Their Head Kicked In, which featured three songs from the adolescent band.

For this Golden Age Thursday, we take you back to the Stardust Ballroom for another set from what is being praised as "L.A.'s First All Skate Gig." The lineup for this night is stacked, and Agression is just one of the skate-oriented hardcore bands that attended this illustrious night. In the clip, you can hear the nuances that make Hickey's vocals some of the most awe-inspiring from the West Coast hardcore movement, and just how raw and pure the connection is between the band and their fellow skating punks. You can watch the complete set below.
