Apple's iOS 26.1 beta 4 lets users customise Liquid Glass transparency, here's how

To use the new feature, beta users can go to the 'Display & Brightness' section in Settings.

Apple has introduced a new feature in the latest beta of iOS, iPadOS, and macOS that makes it easier for users to adjust the look of Liquid Glass. With the update, users can now choose between a Clear or Tinted appearance for Liquid Glass, giving them more control over how interface elements appear. The feature is said to have arrived in iOS 26.1 beta 4, along with the corresponding updates for iPad and Mac.

Apple added this option after hearing feedback from users during the beta testing phase. Some users had found parts of the new Liquid Glass design harder to read, especially notifications and navigation controls in apps like Apple Music. Others, however, praised the update for giving the interface a fresh, modern feel.

To use the new feature, beta users can go to the 'Display & Brightness' section in Settings on iPhone and iPad, where a new Liquid Glass menu appears. On Mac, the option is found under 'Appearance' in System Settings. Users can toggle between Clear and Tinted, with Tinted increasing the opacity of interface elements to make them easier to see.

Apple told TechCrunch that developers who have already implemented Liquid Glass in their apps will automatically have the user's chosen setting applied.

This update shows Apple's ongoing efforts to listen to user feedback. The move is similar to how Apple handled changes in the past. For example, when Safari's address bar was moved to the bottom of the screen in 2021, some users disliked it. Apple responded by adding an option to move it back to the top.
