Premier League clubs spent nearly £3 billion on new football players last summer (£2.824m, €3,250m). Only Liverpool spent nearly as much as the entire French or Spanish leagues, £426, €489m, breaking several records for most expensive transfers in English football, but was the money well spent?
Sports Illustrated has already made a ranking of the worst transfers of the summer in Premier League, ranked according to the difference between the expectations, their history in other clubs, and the minor impact they've had on their new clubs.
Only seven matches have been played in Premier League, so it is still way too early, but some alarms are already sounding in Liverpool, which went to the international break losing the pole position with two consecutive defeats.
Three of Liverpool players are in the top 5, with Florian Wirtz being named as the worst signing, as the £116 million attacking midfielder from Leverkusen has failed to register a goal or an assist.
