Hyderabad: Task force sleuths busted a drug peddling racket operating via a dating app and booked nine persons, including two peddlers, on Thursday. Police seized 100 grams of MDMA from the possession of the accused.Acting on a tip-off, the East Zone Task Force team raided a flat at Seetaphalmandi and arrested two persons, including a 44-year-old private worker and his 30-year-old associate, a vacuum cleaner technician. Police seized 100 grams of MDMA and 10 mobile phones, all worth about Rs 15 lakh. Based on the confession of the duo, the police team also picked up seven consumers, including a 38-year-old general surgeon, a job consultant, and a sex worker."The main accused was active on a dating app and used certain symbols like a rocket and pigeon on his profile to suggest the availability of drugs. Due to unsafe sexual practices, he contracted HIV. Through the dating app, he keeps in contact with the customers and supplies them MDMA," Task Force additional DCP A Srinivasa Rao said.The main accused procured MDMA from a Nigerian in Bengaluru for Rs 4,000 a gram and sold it locally for nearly double the price with the help of his associate. Police said the duo were arrested on similar charges in July 2024 by Chilakalguda police, but they resumed dealing soon after securing bail.The two peddlers will be produced before the court for judicial remand, and the seven consumers will be served notices as per the NDPS Act to undergo rehabilitation.
