Matthew Barber, Police and Crime commissioner for the region, signed an open letter to the Minister for Local Government and English Devolution to request a decision on the Local Government Reorganisation proposal in Oxfordshire.
It comes after the government announced the end of two-tier council systems in England at the end of last year, which has been the long-standing structure in Oxfordshire with the county council and district or city councils operating side-by-side.

As the final options were submitted, the commissioner and several business leaders from across Oxfordshire sent an open letter to Alison McGovern MP, the local government minister, asking to "fast-track" the decision on the county's governance.
The letter said: "We are concerned that a slow pace of decision-making on [Local Government Review] proposals will cause avoidable uncertainty, at a time when clarity is most needed to support local and national ambitions.

"Ongoing uncertainty is delaying investment, workforce planning, and infrastructure projects, while also risking the distraction of public service personnel from their work to address urgent community needs.
"We therefore respectfully urge HM Government to accelerate the statutory consultation and final decision for Oxfordshire on a fast-track basis."
Mr Barber added that he has "long supported a singe Oxfordshire council" and said in a statement: "Whatever the final decision, my view is that the worst of all worlds would be the status quo."
