WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - On the opening night of the high school boys' soccer playoffs, the rain and cold were certainly factors. Despite that, D.C. Everest, Wausau East and Northland Lutheran all advanced into the next round after wins on Tuesday.
For D.C. Everest, the Evergreens defended their #2 seed with a decisive 5-1 win over Appleton West. The Trees scored three goals in the second half to run away with the win. Everest will now play #3 De Pere in the next round on Saturday.
Wausau East also picked up a win to back-up their #2 ranking. The Lumberjacks beat #7 Menomonie 2-0 to move on. East scored both of its goals in the second half. The Jacks will play #6 River Falls next on Saturday.
In D4, #7 Northland Lutheran won their opening round game, beating #10 Newman 3-1. The Wildcats scored two goals within the first 25 minutes to build the early lead. Northland Lutheran now travels to #2 Washburn for their next game on Thursday.
