Griffith Park Drive in Griffith Park (a map is available on this page)
Hearing chittering late at night, sensing something skittering through the shrubs across the road, or finding tracks during a canyon hike might be some of the experiences that a nature-loving Southern Californian could have in a day.
Sometimes, all three experiences can occur in the course of a day, and even more beyond, for we live in a region that abounds with animals, from crows to lizards to bobcats and the occasional curious, pool-seeking bear.
To honor all of our furry, chirping, scurrying, and wing-rocking neighbors, and to highlight the ways we can live more gently near and among these critters, there is a special festival named in honor of a special cat.
It's the P-22 Day Festival, and it is trotting into our worlds on the final Saturday of October.
That's Oct. 25, and the place for the community-cool revelry will again be Griffith Park, a location that the beloved mountain lion P-22 knew well during his life.
It's the 10th anniversary of the outdoor festivity, and a bevy of nature-focused activities, storytime sessions, art displays, and other educational diversions will fill the schedule.
Food trucks will be on the grounds, too, and live music will add to the atmosphere.
The celebration also marks the conclusion of Urban Wildlife Week, and several volunteers and supporters will be at the gathering to share more information.
