How many Australian horses are in the 2025 Melbourne Cup?

The race that stops the nation, the Lexus Melbourne Cup, is by far Australia's biggest race.

But it has become a race that is bigger than just Australia, and every trainer around the world wants to win it.

This year the internationals have arrived in their masses, with only one Australian-born horse in the running.

Thankfully for Australia, it is the reigning Caulfield Cup winner and current favourite, Half Yours, trained by Tony and Calvin McEvoy.

This year's Melbourne Cup will be held on Tuesday, November 4.

As the feature event at Flemington Racecourse, the race is scheduled to start at 3:00 pm AEDT.

With the Melbourne Cup field now confirmed, only one of the 23 runners is an Australian horse.

Whilst there are many horses such as Buckaroo and Arapaho who have been living and racing in Australia for some time, Half Yours is the only Australian-born runner.

Ireland has dominated the field this year with eight runners, France has seven, whilst Great Britain has three, New Zealand has two, the USA has two, and Japan joins Australia with one runner.
