HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Florida - A 38-year-old man from Spokane was arrested in Florida on Tuesday for possession of child sexual abuse material, according to the Spokane Police Department (SPD).
SPD detectives, working with the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) unit, began their investigation in August. They were alerted about the viewing or downloading of child sexual abuse material and identified the Spokane resident as a suspect. However, as they prepared to serve search warrants, they discovered he had moved to Florida.
The ICAC unit contacted Florida police and issued multiple felony warrants, leading to the suspect's arrest on October 28.
Authorities later learned that the suspect had been working as a middle school teacher in Hillsborough County. He was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail and is awaiting extradition back to Washington State, SPD reported.
