Nollywood actor Odunlade Adekola has responded to a fan who criticised the frequent use of charms and incantations in Yoruba historical films
The fan had praised the new epic, War Lord (Olori Ogun), for highlighting the bravery and stories of pre-colonial Yoruba war lords, but expressed concern over the portrayal of supernatural elements.
The fan wrote: "I enjoy this NEW DEVELOPMENT of telling stories about our WAR LORDS
it shows we had HISTORY before colonialism.
But what I DISLIKE is the CONSTANT USE OF CHARM & INCANTATION Can't a WARLORDS fight NEUTRALLY without being DIABOLICAL?
YORUBA INDUSTRY should work on that"
Odunlade replied humorously, saying: "We will use bible verses next time."
The exchange quickly gained attention on social media, with many fans defending Odunlade and arguing that the use of charms and incantations reflects Yoruba culture and historical storytelling, adding authenticity and depth to the films.
