MBABANE - South African Maskandi sensation Umafikizolo has ignited controversy following his performance at the SNAT Teachers' Day Bash held at the Mavuso Exhibition Centre this past Friday, October 24.
The artist, a major drawcard alongside fellow South African star Sjava, claims he was forced to argue his way onto the performance platform, suggesting a logistical or organisational failure at the high-profile event that celebrated Eswatini's educators.
Speaking shortly after his set, a visibly frustrated Umafikizolo detailed the unexpected struggle: "I would like to appreciate the opportunity given to me to perform in Eswatini. A huge thanks to the people who attended the event and supported me.
"I was truly surprised that even in other places people love and listen to my music. Although I was disappointed, I had to fight to get onto the stage. I sent one of my dancers to the stage managers to tell them that the artist on stage was taking too long, but they did not help him. I had to be the one going to the stage managers and that is when we were given the opportunity.
"First, I told them that I was rushing to another show in Durban. We went backstage and this artist performed his whole album until we went back to the car. But I am happy, I ended up performing. I blame the stage managers though for this whole issue" he said.
