CARSON -- Three first-half touchdowns and a solid defensive effort proved to be the perfect recipe for the Carson football team in Thursday's nonleague meeting against Dorsey.
Quarterback Chris Fields III, rushed for a 39-yard touchdown and connected with Royal Moore and Michael O'Dell for touchdown passes in the 29-0 win, giving coach William Lowe his first win as coach.
Lowe took over at Carson after moving from Rancho Christian.
"I thought we played pretty well last week at Villa Park (26-22), we just had a couple small, little mistakes at the end that cost us," Lowe said. "That was a really good Southern Section team and I thought we played really well.
"Our biggest goal is we've got to stay consistent, we just got to be consistent and do the right things week in and week out and the right things during the week to make sure we're ready to play on game night."
Fields put the Colts (1-1) on the board early on his 39-yard run on a fourth-down call in the first quarter. Later in the quarter, Fields went deep toward Moore, who went up and fought off and hauled in a 44-yard touchdown, despite the Dorsey defender getting his hands on the ball, nearly coming down with the interception.
Fields final touchdown went to O'Dell, an eight-yard touchdown for a 21-0 lead.
After that the defense stepped forward.
Dorsey opened the second half with its best drive, moving the ball to the Carson 8, however the drive would on an incomplete, fourth-down pass. The Dons, playing their season opener, got inside the Carson 10, two more times, but each time the Carson defense shut the door.
Preston Leomiti had an interception on what was a first-and-goal situation for Dorsey at the Carson 10 in the fourth quarter.
"I liked our effort and flying to the ball," Lowe said of his defense. "We've got to tackle better, but our effort is there, that's the most important thing for right now is effort."
After the tough loss against Villa Park, Carson will step into another big nonleague test next week against Palos Verdes.
"When I got here, we picked up Villa Park and Palos Verdes," Lowe said. "Trying to steal off Birmingham like they do, playing really tough Southern Section teams in nonleague, if we can play really good teams like that in nonleague, it's got to help us once we get to (Marine) league and playoffs."
In the fourth quarter, Eric "Speedy" Myers capped the scoring with a four-yard touchdown for Carson. This was Carson's first meeting with Dorsey since 2015.
