From 911 To Proactive Care: Pasco Fire Rescue Pioneers New Health Program

The Mobile Integrated Health Program goes beyond emergencies to connect residents with essential care and resources.

PASCO COUNTY, Fla. - When you think of fire rescue, you likely picture ambulances, sirens, and emergency situations. But Pasco County Fire Rescue (PCFR) is changing that narrative with the launch of its new Mobile Integrated Health (MIH) Program.

This isn't just a new service; it's a new philosophy of care -- one that focuses on prevention and proactive support to improve community health.

The MIH team, a specialized unit of highly trained paramedics and healthcare professionals, is now working directly in the community. Their mission is to provide personalized, in-home care, offering everything from chronic disease management and health education to post-hospital follow-ups.

Their goal is to meet people where they are, physically and emotionally, to keep them from needing emergency services in the first place.

"By focusing on prevention and personalized support, the MIH team helps ease the burden on emergency services while empowering individuals to take control of their health journey," said Fire Chief Ryan Guynn. "It's about improving outcomes and enhancing lives -- a perfect example of our commitment to 'Caring Beyond the Call.'"

This innovative program aims to reduce the number of repeat emergency calls and hospital visits by helping residents navigate local healthcare resources and receive the right support before a minor issue becomes a major emergency.

It's a forward-thinking approach that transforms the role of fire rescue from simply responding to crises to actively building a healthier community.
