Cult musician John Otway to bring fun-filled night to Malvern

Otway, who has built a sizeable loyal following through extensive touring, is known for his surreal sense of humour and underdog persona.

His career highlights include a performance on the BBC's Old Grey Whistle Test in 1977, which led to a surge in popularity and his song Really Free reaching number 27 in the UK singles chart.

With an appearance on the BBC's flagship music programme Top of the Pops, where Otway & Barrett were introduced by Elton John, Otway was finally a star.

He wouldn't experience chart success again for another 25 years, but during those intervening years, he further expanded his repertoire by acting, writing an autobiography (Cor Baby That's Really Me: Rock and Roll's Greatest Failure), performing sold-out shows at prestigious venues like London's Astoria and Royal Albert Hall, making regular appearances at Glastonbury and Edinburgh Festivals and penning the nation's seventh favourite lyric of all time (beating Bob Dylan and Paul Simon in the process).

In 2002, Otway achieved what he wanted the most: a second musical hit.

Through a well-orchestrated publicity campaign, Otway's disco pastiche Bunsen Burner soared to number nine in the charts, landing him another appearance on Top of the Pops.

Always a great, fun filled night out, doors open at 7.30pm on November 22, with support from 'Malvern mayhem merchants' the Very Grimm brothers.
