Argument turns into deadly shooting outside Kentwood convenience store

KENTWOOD, La. (WVUE) - A Mississippi man is dead following an argument that ended in gunshots late Christmas night on Highway 51 in Kentwood.

Police identified Deshawn Roberts, of Osyka, Mississippi, as the victim.

Demarcus Blount, of McComb, Mississippi, was booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail for second-degree murder and illegal use of a deadly weapon after initially attempting to flee the scene in the aftermath of the incident. Police say Blount surrendered when an officer caught up with his vehicle northbound on US 51.

The shooting occurred just before 11 p.m. on Wednesday (Dec. 25) outside of the 4 Way Quick Stop on US 51 and Avenue E, according to police. Investigators say an argument began inside the store and continued into the parking lot. Both individuals brandished firearms and investigators say surveillance footage suggests Blount was the only one of the two that fired shots.

Kentwood police say that the investigation is ongoing and ask that anyone with information contact them at 985-229-6305.
