Blockbuster move coming? Eagles create massive salary cap space in Bryce Huff trade

By virtue of an extremely cost-conscious approach to 2025 free agency -- and now what looks to be a fortuitous deal with the San Francisco 49ers for struggling EDGE rusher Bruce Huff -- the Philadelphia Eagles suddenly have a wealth of salary cap space to make a splash move prior to training camp.

Trey Hendrickson, anyone? What once felt like a pipe dream now feels much more realistic for an Eagles team that has a serious need for a pass rusher.

Huff was never going to be part of the Eagles' plans in 2025, not after he struggled mightily in defensive coordinator Vic Fangio's scheme and was ultimately benched in Super Bowl LIX.

How much are the Eagles saving in their reported trade with San Francisco? Here are the cash details, per ESPN insider Field Yates:

All told, the Eagles will create north of $15 million in 2025 salary cap space by moving Huff -- on top of draft pick compensation from the 49ers. If this all holds true -- the deal likely won't be made official until after June 1 -- Philly will have north or $40M in cap space with training camp just around the corner.

While that might not be enough to sway ownership to take a run at Hendrickson -- the team is preparing for superstar defensive tackle Jalen Carter's extension, which could come as soon as 2026 -- it definitely gives the team flexibility to make a significant move either prior to the regular season or closer to the trade deadline.

Aside for extensions for Saquon Barkley, Lane Johnson and Zack Baun this offseason, Philly's biggest commitment has been a $4 million deal for EDGE Azeez Ojulari.
