(BIVN) - The measles virus has been found in a West Hawaiʻi wastewater sample, health officials announced on Wednesday, marking the first wastewater detection of the virus in the state.
The wastewater sample was collected on August 11, 2025, at a site in West Hawai'i on the island of Hawaiʻi.
The Hawaiʻi Department of Health says it was notified of the positive sample result on Tuesday, August 26th. In a news release announcing the wastewater finding, the health department noted no suspected measles cases have been reported as of August 27th.
