Srinagar, Oct 15: Awami Itihaad Party (AIP), Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi on Wednesday addressed a commemorative gathering on the second anniversary of renowned writer and poet Ghulam Nabi Khayal organised by Wisdom Together at Srinagar.
Expressing deep admiration for the late literary icon, Inam paid rich tributes to Ghulam Nabi Khayal, describing him as a "courageous conscience-keeper" who used his pen for truth, peace and cultural preservation. "The biggest tribute to Khayal Sahib would not be in words, but in actions that strengthen our linguistic and cultural identity, particularly through the promotion of Kashmir besides Urdu, which remains the official language of Jammu and Kashmir," he said.
The AIP spokesperson thanked Bilal Bashir, Rameez Makhdoomi and Ajaz Ahmad War and their team for organising the meaningful event that brought together writers, journalists, and admirers of G N Khayal's legacy.
He emphasised that Urdu must reclaim its rightful place in public life, not only in literature and education but also in administration and social communication. "It should be made mandatory that all government as well as private signboards, institutions and public places display names in Urdu," he said, adding that such steps would be a fitting homage to Khayal Sahib's lifelong commitment to linguistic and cultural pride.
