The Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Deputy President of the Senate, Alhaji Ismail Mudashir, has said the award conferred on his principal, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, will spur him to do more for sports development in Nigeria.
On Friday, October 30, the Senator representing Kano North in the Senate was among distinguished Nigerians who were honoured by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) at its 60th Anniversary celebration in Abuja.
Senator Barau who is also the founder and financier of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side, Barau FC, was conferred with the Outstanding Lawmaker Award in recognition of his unwavering commitment to sports development in Nigeria.
Mudashir who represented his principal at the auspicious occasion said the Deputy President of the Senate, who is also the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, is proud to be associated with sports writers in Nigeria and will continue to partner with SWAN to advance the development of sports in the country.
"On behalf of the Deputy President of the Senate, I would like to thank the leadership and members of this association for this recognition.
"It would encourage him to do more for sports, Nigerian youths and the country as a whole, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu."
Mudashir instantly transferred the sum of N2,000,000 into SWAN account on behalf of Senator Barau as support for the association's fundraising for a befitting secretariat in Abuja.
