Alexis Mac Allister admits Liverpool are no longer thinking about retaining the Premier League title.
After beating West Ham United 2-0 to end a run of three defeats across all competitions and nine in their last 12 games, the 26-year-old says all the focus is on building consistency.
When asked if he's still thinking about the title, he added: "No, that's difficult. I think Arsenal are very strong this season and they deserve it because they are a really good team and Man City are around there, too.
"But for us it's not about the title race, it's about just getting points and playing the football that we can play."
Liverpool are in eighth place and nine points off leaders Arsenal with Mac Allister conceding it's a "tough situation" to turnaround.
The Argentina international insists there's still much more to come from the defending champions, and that finding the right performances are key during this hectic period packed with fixtures.
"It's important to win, especially in the moment we are in, but this doesn't mean anything, it's just a win, and now we have to focus on Wednesday.
"To be completely honest we didn't see the team that we really want to be. I think we can do much more, especially defensively."
The midfielder insists there's enough positivity and togetherness to pull the squad through and hopes that will show in the future results.
A number of Liverpool's new signings have taken time to settle in but Mac Allister reserved praise for the most expensive of the lot, Alexander Isak, after he scored his first Premier League goal of the season in the 2-0 win.
"I'm really happy for him, I think he's an amazing player, like we all know. I was joking with him because he doesn't even smile when he scores! He's very, very quiet, and likes to be on his own sometimes. I even spoke to him in Spanish because he (understands) it really good. We're all happy to have him here."
As for his own form, Mac Allister says he's feeling "completely fine" both physically and mentally, despite a disrupted pre-season.
"I've felt good for a long time and I know that when you lose, people are going to keep talking and talking and talking but I feel good mentally and physically. So yeah, now I just need to show it."
