Regarding "Burger Joint fundraises for Montrose library following Whitmire's 'hamburger building' complaints," (Dec. 17): I'd just like to say thank you to Burger Joint for supporting our new library.
The mayor's comments about the library being in the parking lot of a burger restaurant are funny to me, because the old location of the Freed-Montrose Library shared a tiny parking lot with Black Lab Pub for years. It also had an entire upper floor closed due to derecho damage, constant maintenance issues and about two usable parking spaces (if you came on a weekday at 11 a.m. and got lucky). It was closed on weekends and after normal working hours. The librarians were awesome, but under these conditions, it's been almost impossible to pick up a book -- much less browse, research and discover.
