Verdigris leaned on its ace and a red-hot middle of the order Thursday.
The Lady Cardinals rode big swings from Rilyn Stringfellow and Gabi Sherman to post back-to-back victories over Booker T. Washington and Colcord in the Lincoln Christian Tournament.
With two runners aboard and Verdigris trailing 1-0 in the third, Stringfellow turned on a pitch and ripped a triple into the right-field gap, plating both runs and putting the Lady Cards on top for good.
By the time Stringfellow crushed a solo home run three innings later, the rout was well underway.
Stringfellow finished 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs and 2 extra-base hits, while Macy Beauchamp and Harlie Tucker also notched three hits apiece in Verdigris' 12-hit barrage. Tucker added 2 runs driven in, including a key RBI single in the fourth.
Brinlee Murray took care of the rest in the circle, spinning six innings of 2-hit ball with 9 strikeouts and no earned runs allowed.
After the Lady Hornets opened the scoring in the second when a bases-loaded walk forced home a run, the Lady Cardinals answered with Stringfellow's 2-run triple in the third and never looked back.
Verdigris tacked on single runs in the fourth and fifth before exploding for three in the sixth, capped by Stringfellow's towering homer to left.
BTW managed just 2 hits om singles from Ella Brown and Zoe Perry.
VERDIGRIS 7, COLCORD 0
If Stringfellow's bat set the tone in Game 1, it was Sherman's turn to slam the door in Game 2.
With the bases loaded in the second inning, Sherman unloaded a bases-clearing double to left, breaking open what had been a one-run game.
Sherman finished 2-for-4 with 4 RBIs, while Stringfellow added another 3-hit outing that included 2 doubles and 2 runs driven in.
Verdigris struck first in the opening frame when Stringfellow doubled home Sydney Lewis. The Lady Cards then piled on 5 runs in the second inning, highlighted by Sherman's 3-run double and Lewis' RBI single.
Stringfellow later doubled again to score Lewis, stretching the margin to 6-0.
In the circle, Stringfellow and Murray combined for a 2-hitter. Stringfellow struck out 7 in 3.2 innings before handing the ball to Murray, who allowed just 1 hit over the final 2.1.
Colcord's lone bright spot was Riley James, who went 2-for-3 with a double. However, the Lady Hornets could not muster sustained offense as Verdigris completed the sweep.
With the victories, the Lady Cardinals improved to 9-3 on the season, showcasing both power and pitching depth. The Lady Cards will continue tournament play at Lincoln Christian at 11:30 a.m. Saturday against Newcastle.
