Did Taylor Swift offer 'exclusive anthem,' sponsorships to NFL teams pledging LGBTQ+ support?

In late August 2025, social media posts alleged that global superstar Taylor Swift offered to perform exclusive anthems and provide sponsorship deals for various NFL teams -- including the Kansas City Chiefs, the team her fiance, Travis Kelce, plays for -- on the condition that they publicly pledge their support for the LGBTQ+ community.

According to the same posts, several NFL quarterbacks, most notably the Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes and the Buffalo Bills' Josh Allen, reportedly rejected Swift's offers with fiery responses.

For example, one Facebook post (archived) shared on Aug. 27, 2025, read:

BREAKING NEWS: World-renowned singer Taylor Swift offered to perform an exclusive anthem for the Kansas City Chiefs at the 2025 NFL kickoff game along with a season-long sponsorship deal -- but only if the team made a permanent public advertisement pledging support for LGBT. In response, quarterback Patrick Mahomes shocked the entire NFL community with one explosive line: "The Kansas City Chiefs will never trade our soul for money -- not to Taylor Swift, not to anyone."

Snopes readers also searched our website for confirmation of whether the rumors were true.

However, the stories about Swift's offers to NFL teams and quarterbacks' rejections were fictional.

While it's unclear who originally authored the similar stories, they were part of a trend of sensational -- but false -- stories about celebrities on social media. The stories were seemingly written to generate advertising revenue for websites linked in the aforementioned Facebook posts.

An examination of posts sharing the stories about Swift's offer and NFL stars' responses indicated that their text was likely generated by artificial-intelligence (AI) software. GPTZero, an AI detection tool, reported it was "highly confident" that AI helped create the text of the Facebook posts, though it's worth noting that such platforms are not always accurate.

The false rumor about Swift's sponsorship offer also circulated in connection with multiple NFL teams. If Swift had made such an offer, it likely would have been exclusive to one team. The posts resembled copypasta, or copied-and-pasted text shared online, with the names of different quarterbacks swapped in across multiple Facebook posts.

We've investigated numerous rumors related to Swift over the years. For example, we looked into whether a video showed comedian Larry David's reaction to Swift and Kelce's engagement. We also put together a collection of 25 other claims about the pop star that we've fact-checked.
