The Irish Meteorological Service said the warning is in place from 4pm on Thursday until 6am on Friday
The north of Ireland has been issued a yellow wind warning leading up to the weekend. The Irish Meteorological Service issued the warnings for Donegal, Mayo from 4pm on Thursday, November 27 to 6am on Friday, November 28.
A 'yellow' warning means weather is not unusual, but poses the threat of localised danger. The weather service said 'strong to gale force and gusty southwesterly winds' can be expected. It warned of potentially difficult travelling conditions, the possibility of loose objects being displaced and debris. Yellow status marine gale warnings were issued from Loop Head to Rossan Point to Fair Head and from Valentia to Bloody Foreland to Carlingford Lough and on the Irish Sea North of Anglesey. A small craft warning is also in place for all coasts of Ireland. The weather service said previously: 'There's some uncertainty in the forecast for Friday night. There's a chance that a small scale area of low pressure may develop close to the south of Ireland bringing persistent heavy rain for a time, especially further to the south, with the possibility of strong winds as well. 'However, this area of low pressure will most likely stay further to the south, in which case we'll see a mix of clear spells and further scattered heavy showers, some of hail and some possibly thundery. In this most likely scenario the winds are likely to gradually ease, with the chance of frost, ice and some fog patches developing, with lowest temperatures of 0C to 6C.'
