Joe Rogan believes Jake Paul has made a serious mistake by putting a weight limit on Anthony Joshua ahead of their heavyweight showdown.
Earlier this month, the boxing fraternity were shocked after reports emerged that both Joshua and Paul were finalising a deal to meet in the ring this Christmas. Last week, it was announced that the pair will go head-to-head on December 19 in Miami in a professional contest.
The bout will be contested over eight three-minute rounds, with both men set to wear 10oz gloves, With Paul set to move up from cruiserweight for a second time in his career, Joshua has been informed that he cannot weight more than 245lb ahead of the blockbuster clash.
But Rogan - a popular UFC commentator - believes the unique rule will work in the Brit's favour and it could ultimately end up backfiring for Paul. "Listen, kids, it ain't going to matter," Rogan said about the weight limit. "There's not a chance that Anthony Joshua is not going to just lose the weight beforehand.
"He's not going to come in drained. What he's going to do is just do extra cardio, and that's just gonna make him more dangerous. He's gonna be terrifying." He added: "He's going to be very angry that Jake Paul wants to fight him. Very upset that this YouTuber. That right hand, if it hits you, you are f*****! This is a giant, Olympic gold medalist heavyweight...one-punch nuclear power. He's a specialist at putting knuckles through your f****** brain, and that's what he's gonna try to do to Jake Paul."
Paul has some minor experience at heavyweight. The natural cruiserweight fighter took on Mike Tyson at the aforementioned weight class last November. The 'Problem Child' was unable to put the boxing veteran away, but he did cruise to a points victory. The American moved back down in weight in his last fight back in June when he defeated ex-champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
But his upcoming bout with Joshua marks a huge step up in competition for the YouTuber-turned-boxer. Many are fearing for the American's health ahead of the clash, including his good friend Sean O'Malley. "Did you see the size difference between Anthony (and Jake)? Did you see how f****** huge that guy is? 6'6, 265," O'Malley said on his YouTube channel. "This fight, as a friend of Jake is like, I'm scared.
"Getting knocked out by someone like that changes lives. It doesn't change just your career path. It can change lives. It can change the way you think. Getting knocked out, bad concussions are scary. You have one f****** brain, and he's willing to go out there and fight. Like, that is absolutely f****** insane. Like, it scares me."
Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul will clash in Miami on December 19, just six days before Christmas. The pair will likely walk to the ring at around 11pm local time which would be 4am in the UK. Fight times are usually set to benefit the American audience and are subject to change depending on how long the undercard takes to complete. The event is set to be shown live on Netflix.
