The holiday season is upon us, and when you factor that in with the transfer portal being wide open, National Signing Day happening a few weeks ago, and most teams preparing for bowl games, there's not a ton of recruiting news around this time of year.
But there's still some important stuff to get to, including recruits getting their first taste of college action starting today.
Early enrollment for incoming recruits has been incredibly popular as of late, and Michigan is among the many schools with 2025 signees joining the squad early.
Not only do the players get a head start academically and more time to acclimate to the college experience, but they also get valuable practice time ahead of bowl games to kickstart their collegiate career.
Those extra practices are especially crucial for Bryce Underwood, as 2025's No. 1 ranked recruit gets time to start working with new offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey. Underwood is among the 14 recruits who are currently listed as enrolled in the university on Michigan's student directory as of Dec. 18, along with the following players, ranked from high to low based on their 247Sports rankings:
Four-star safety Jordan Young is also expected to enroll early, giving Michigan 15 incoming freshmen getting invaluable reps at bowl practices.
It's always fun to flip a recruit, but Michigan fans always take extra pride in swaying a talented young player away from Ohio State.
Michigan is trying to pull that task off with Zahir Mathis, a four-star edge ranked 73rd in the 2025 class and sixth among his position group on the composite. Mathis was initially supposed to visit this past weekend, but that visit has been rescheduled for after the new year.
Citing a source, 247Sports' Brian Dohn ($) reported that Mathis is set to now visit Michigan on Jan. 10, with Florida State and UCLA also trying to get him on campus.
Dohn reported that all the usual suspects -- Georgia, Oregon, Tennessee, Miami and USC -- are showing interest in Mathis, but the fact he only has a Michigan visit on the books is a fantastic sign. Dohn also said Mathis will sign in February.
We'll keep you posted on his recruitment, and for all the latest portal updates, I recommend bookmarking our portal tracker, which has all the news in one place.
