NEW YEAR'S DAY TV - Vera, Gladiators, World's Strongest Man and Gavin and Stacey documentary

There is still time for reflection on 2024 in the schedule if you are still in a 'look back at the past 12 months' mood.

Channel 5 never disappoints when it comes to offering something different - 2024: Celebs We Cancelled (8pm) looks at the downfall of celebrities who, 12 months ago, would have seemed untouchable.

The show explores their demise through interviews and analysis of how and when it all went wrong.

The Big Fat Quiz of the Year (10.30pm, Channel 4) also takes a light-hearted look at 2024.

This was aired on December 27 but, if you missed it first time, now is a good a time as ever to catch it.

Host Jimmy Carr is joined by Richard Ayoade, Katherine Ryan, Rob Beckett, Judi Love, Chris McCausland and Maisie Adam.

This firm favourite in the festive calendar never ceases to amaze you about how much you remember or have forgotten about the past 12 months and provides the chance for friends or family members to pitch themselves against each other on what they recall from 2024.

Popular detective show Vera returns for its 13th season (8pm, ITV1).

After the discovery of the body of an ex-prisoner, sharp-witted DCI Vera Stanhope (Brenda Blethyn) is called in to investigate and finds herself in the midst of two cases and also contemplating a potentially life-changing decision.

This is a two-parter which concludes tomorrow at 8pm.

Gavin and Stacey: A Fond Farewell documentary (7pm, BBC One) looks back at one of the nation's favourite sitcoms which aired its final episode on Christmas Day. Creators James Corden and Ruth Jones, along with others reflect on this show and its success.

If you are contemplating getting fit and healthier in 2025, The World's Strongest Man - The Final (7.30pm, Channel 5) could provide some inspiration.

After a series of gruelling pushing, pulling and carrying challenges, the top two from each heat compete against each other for the prestigious crown.

If these competitors can push themselves to the limit with unforgiving and relentless training schedules, surely you can get back to the gym, go for that swim or start that 'Couch to 5k' programme you have been vowing to do for the past 12 months.

Gladiators (6pm, BBC One) offers another show of strength - albeit in a somewhat more light-hearted and entertaining format.

The show has seen a resurgence since its return with father-and-son hosts Bradley and Barney Walsh.

This episode sees celebrities Rob Beckett and Joel Dommett and Louise Minchin and Ellie Taylor take on the Gladiators before going head-to-head.
