FRESNO, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) -- The Central Section Track and Field Championships took place today, offering a platform for local athletes to showcase their talents in various events as they look to qualify for states.
Among the standout performers was discus thrower Joslyn Pierucci, a junior who has been on the cusp of success for the past two years. Pierucci, who was previously hindered by a foul that kept her from advancing to state during her sophomore year, achieved a personal best throw of 147 feet and 1 inch. This remarkable performance, surpassing her previous record by over 8 feet, earned her the Central Section Championship title.
In the hurdles, Stockdale's Vincent Carnegie made a strong comeback after a fall during divisionals a few weeks ago. Carnegie triumphed in the 300 hurdles with a time of 38.16 seconds, winning by a mere three-hundredths of a second.
In the triple jump, BHS jumper Damari Miller leaped 45 feet and 9 inches. Despite fouling on his last two attempts, Miller secured second place at the championships.
