HAMMOND, Ind. (WLS/CNN/CNN Newsource/WKRC) -- A neurodivergent Indiana man was attacked and recorded while returning home from work.
Scott Lindsey, a 44-year-old resident of Hammond, Indiana, is recovering after a brutal attack left him with most of his front teeth knocked out. Lindsey was assaulted by several individuals, some on bikes, while riding his bike home through Hessville Park on August 15.
"They said I was following them too closely and I was about to get a drink, and I got attacked," Lindsey told WLS.
He was on his way home from his job at a local grocery store, where he has worked for 14 years. As he stopped to drink at a water fountain, the group surrounded him, taunting and calling him names before taking turns beating, punching and kicking him.
"I didn't say anything to them," Lindsey added when speaking to WLS.
A witness called 911, but by the time officers arrived, the attackers had fled, leaving Lindsey bloodied. Lindsey, who lives with his aunt, initially hesitated to report the incident but eventually did. His stepfather expressed outrage over the attack, noting that one of the assailants recorded the violence and posted it on social media.
"It looks like at this point it was entertainment because they said he was vulnerable after a period of time other individuals, instead of intervening, joined in the attack and no one, no one intervened on Scott's behalf," he told WLS.
Lindsey said he won't be cutting through the park anytime soon and just wants to move past the ordeal. His family stated that Lindsey will require costly and extensive dental work to repair the damage to his mouth from the attack.
