Jasper Police Department swears in 13-year-old honorary officer

There's a new police officer in Jasper after 13-year-old Devarjaye Daniel was recently sworn in by the department as an honorary member during a special ceremony.

Daniel currently lives in Houston and always had the dream to become a police officer. Although terminal brain and spine cancer have made things difficult for Daniel, he's still accomplished that dream of becoming an officer.

He's been sworn in with more than 900 law-enforcement agencies nationwide. Daniel is a graduate of FBINA Session 284 from the FBI Academy and has appeared on the cover of Blue Magazine. He's also been announced on the Congressional floor by Congressman Troy Nehls in Washington, D.C. at the U.S. Capital and has hundreds of proclamations for which he chooses to share with other people.

The Jasper Police Department and Jasper Texas Volunteer Fire Department made Daniel an honorary member of both departments this past week. He was also presented with a key to the city of Jasper along with a proclamation from city officials.

"This young man has an amazing outlook on life that many may take for granted," the City of Jasper wrote in a social media post. "He was an inspiration for many who met him today for the first time. We wish Devarjaye and his family the best."
