When the New York Giants acquired backup quarterback Drew Lock, they knew they'd be signing up for the pendulum swing that is his volatile play.
Sometimes Lock will flash the arm talent that made him a second-round pick. Other times he is defined by reckless mistakes that render him a low-priority backup.
On Sunday, the Giants got the latter, and promptly fell to the hosting Atlanta Falcons, 34-7.
New York took a 7-0 lead with the help of running back Tyrone Tracy Jr, but that was the high point of an otherwise disastrous afternoon.
Lock was intercepted on his next drive, throwing a pick-six to Falcons safety Jessie Bates III. After punting away their next opportunity, Lock fumbled on the first play from scrimmage, giving Atlanta a chance to put a stamp on Week 16's festivities.
The Giants went into halftime trailing 17-7. On the first drive of the second half, Lock once again found a Falcons defender. Edge rusher Matthew Judon picked the ball basically off his hand, scampering into the end zone for a second pick-six.
It wasn't a spotless day for rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr., but he did more than enough to stave off New York's lifeless attempt to end the losing streak. After Sunday, it sits at 10 games, making their bid for the first pick even stronger.
Operating with an advantage due to the offense's struggles, Penix and the run game - led by running back Bijan Robinson - were efficient in their scampering. Picked apart by injuries, the Giants defense never had much of a shot.

Receiver Malik Nabers managed to carve out a memory from Sunday's loss, setting the franchise record for receptions, breaking Odell Beckham Jr.'s mark of 91 catches in 2014. Once again, he's proven to be a bright spot in a sorry season.
With the loss, New York will fall to 2-13.
