A Swindon town centre café has been given permission to make a major change.
Fika Coffee and Wine opened near Havelock Square in April and has been steadily growing a loyal base of customers.
Owner Martin Keise applied to Swindon Borough Council asking to vary the premises licence so that he could host live music at any time between 7am and 11pm Monday to Sunday.
On Friday, October 24, he shared a post on social media which revealed that his application had been approved.
He said: "There's a time for everything, it's time to lift your voices and raise the roof.
"Let me entertain you with the 'open mic' voice of Swindon. I'm feeling excited."
The 51-year-old spoke to the Adver shortly after he took over the former home of Triple Two Coffee, and mentioned hopes to add a bakery at some point in the future.
Swindon is not short of coffee shops but the alcoholic offerings along with the vibe of the place and the simple selection of quality ingredients used for the brews help his venture stand out from the rest.
The name of the business - Fika - comes from a Swedish concept which is all about keeping things simple, or as he put it, "a quiet time with yourself and a coffee and a sweet, or time with friends, slowing down and taking a break".
Poetry nights, talks, book launches, veteran support meetings, and other events have been held there in recent weeks.
It has received an average rating of 4.6 stars based on 42 reviews, with customers praising the relaxed atmosphere, fast service, friendly staff, and tasty sweet treats on offer.
In September, Martin posted a plea to Swindon shoppers asking them to support local businesses after national chains like Bodycare collapsed into administration and left another empty space in the town centre.
He said at the time: "I am doing my very best to give everyone that little special treatment.
"I'm doing what I can to support the town centre. Yes this is a coffee shop but with so much more to offer.
"I am looking to host more events, if there are those of you with hidden talents or looking to book up, pop in for a coffee or a glass or wine and let's have a chat."
