Evelyn and Alf Cadwallader tied the knot at the Methodist church in Bebington on November 24, 1951. They had met three years earlier, when Evelyn was 18 and Alf was 19.
They are still as happy as ever.
Evelyn, who is now 96, told the Globe their marriage had been "one lovely life with its ups and downs but more ups than downs" adding "it's all about being there and looking after each other, helping as much as we can.
"Alf spends time doing his painting and I spend time writing books about my life that only the children and grandchildren will read."

Asked about the secret of a long and happy marriage, Alf, who will turn 97 later this month, joked: "It's all about give and take and doing what I'm told. Another secret is a whiskey but only for medicinal purposes of course."
Alf was in the Air Force and Merchant Navy. In civilian life he worked for Vauxhall Motors.
On the night they met, Evelyn was going to buy some sweets and Alf was walking in the opposite direction.
Recalling the events leading up to their meeting, Evelyn said: "I'd never met Alf before, it was just a strange situation. There was a string of pearls on the road; I went to pick them up and Alf did too.
"He asked, 'Are they yours?' I said 'no' and we chatted for a few minutes.
"We decided to take them into the shop and leave them there in case their rightful owner turned up."
After the chance meeting, Alf asked Evelyn for her address and then went off to sea.
Six weeks later, he called at Evelyn's family home to ask if anyone had claimed the string of pearls.
He also asked Evelyn if she would like to go to the pictures. She accepted his offer of a trip out to the Palace Picturehouse in Rock Ferry and the rest is history.
The couple - who live in Thingwall - have three sons - Robert, Roy and Brian - daughters-in-law Sandra, Jane and Gail; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
During their first trip away together, the couple - who were keen cyclists - travelled all over the country on Alf's treasured tandem bike.
After the birth of first son Robert, Evelyn and Alf, who is also a keen painter, gave up the tandem for a motorbike and sidecar.

Evelyn was luncheon club developer for Age Concern Wirral (now Age UK Wirral), opening more than 20 luncheon clubs and retiring from service at the age of 86.
Looking back over the last 74 years, Alf joked "It could be rough", adding "No, it's good. We've had bad times and good times."
Eve added: "I would say the good times are now, because we've made it through 74 years of marriage and are still here. A lot of people wouldn't get that far would they?
"We've both got our memories together, we can talk about things, we can laugh about things
"Alf and I have always been very honest with each other and that is a very, very important thing in our marriage. If you've been honest, what more can you get in life?"
Looking back on the day that the first brought them together 77 years ago, Eve said: "Meeting over the string of pearls was our lucky day, because it set us on a course for the rest of our lives.
"But it's a funny thing, I've never wanted to wear pearls, ever. They put me off and I don't want to break the friendship Alf and I have built up".
Asked how they plan to celebrate their anniversary, Eve continued: "We're not planning a big celebration, just going to have an open day for friends and neighbours."
From all at Wirral Globe, a very happy anniversary Evelyn and Alf 🎉🥂
