WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (WSAW) - For 16 years, Christopher Revak had been a suspect in Deidre Harm's death. Wood County District Attorney Jonathan Barnett closed the case after reviewing evidence, finding Revak responsible. Investigators say it remains open in their hearts.
"You know when you work these cases, they stick with you," said Wood County Sheriff Shawn Becker.
Becker has investigated Harm's death from the start. He remembers when investigators first heard of Revak in 2009.
"You look at the behavior that Chris Revak displayed that weekend is very suspect, and then you add all the pieces together. Through phone records, through financials, Chris Revak was in town the weekend that Deidre Harm went missing," Becker said.
Barnett was elected to office last year and was given the case materials soon after. While no new evidence came forward since that time, Barnett said everything in the case file pointed toward Revak and was enough to close the case.
In addition to Harm and Rene Williams, Becker believes Revak could be responsible for the disappearance of Jodi Huisentruit, an Iowa journalist who disappeared in June 1995.
"If you have a similar situation, if an agency's working a similar situation, I would definitely look at Chris Revak, especially in Wisconsin, or close to it," Becker said.
Investigators first learned of Revak in 2009 after he died by suicide in a Missouri jail. He was in custody for the murder of Williams.
"People should know, for the family, it doesn't close the case. And it really doesn't close the case for, you know, all the officers, deputies, investigators that work this case. You know, it's almost two decades. And especially the core of investigators, detectives that work so hard on this, it stays with you," Becker said.
The Wood County Sheriff's Department will continue to work with outside departments that believe Revak is involved in other missing persons cases.
