David Mitchell responds to Peep Show demand amid reunion with Robert Webb - Manchester Evening News

David Mitchell and Robert Webb appeared on The One Show as they discussed their new sketch show out this September.

During Wednesday's (September 3) installment, Alex Jones and Vernon Kay welcomed David Mitchell and Robert Webb into the studio.

David and Robert are best known for creating British sitcom Peep Show that started in 2003 and ended in 2015.

The show aired on Channel 4 and followed the lives of Mark Corrigan and Jeremy Usbourne, two flatmates in Croydon, London.

Although fans were disappointed when the hit series came to its end, the creators maintained that it was to do the story justice, and to "end on a high note".

However, the pair are now bringing back a new sketch show for the first time in 15 years. It's called Mitchell And Webb Are Not Helping and airs on Friday September 5.

On The One Show, David shared: "We've always loved sketch shows, but we thought, and for years, we were sad not to be doing one."

Robert added: "We did four series on the BBC and then that came to an end and we were like, oh right, well, that's why we wanted to be on TV and that's stopped now. Then Peep Show carried on and we did other things, but we weren't really expecting to do a sketch show again.

"It turned out we were waiting to be politely asked for 15 years and then we got asked."

With sketch shows starting to rise in popularity again and hit American show Saturday Night Live coming over to the UK, Alex asked if they feel the popularity growing.

David responded: "I mean, it's felt like sketch comedy has always come and gone a bit, but it went away to an unprecedented extent in the last decade.

"We really hope it's all gonna come back and there'll be a new boom time for it. It's nice that Saturday Night Live is coming over but I insist that they have stolen our idea!"

Alex then asked if there will ever be a Peep Show special in the near future, and as the pair both had a resigned look on their faces, David answered: "We said when it stopped that we weren't absolutely ruling out visiting them again in their dotage.

"That remains the situation, but there are no plans." Robert then added: "Well, it would be different, but yeah."
