PLANS are afoot to have action week in week out in the country's first Five-A-Side Soccer National League that was introduced way back in April.
Over the months, the league's action has been taking part at Bulawayo's Gwalanda Football For Hope facility after skipping a week without playing games.
"Now we are planning to have games every weekend as opposed to what we have been since the start of our inaugural national league," said Five-A-Side national chairman Philani Banda.
"The development comes at a time when we are now targeting to finish the season in the second week of December and we go on to hold our awards ceremony. We are very much happy with the level of competition that has been so far demonstrated.
All clubs are fulfilling their matches and we are grateful to our sponsors Herentals College for the continued support. The games are always being played at a packed venue which is very impressive," said Banda amid revelations that the league's games will start being continuously being played from this weekend.
The 12 member league is made up of 12 outfits Go Boyz, Sobu'sa, Nedbank, TNS Rovers, Amabhubesi, Fox FC, Southwonder, Mic Tech, Focus, Spark United, Cowdray Park and MIA FC.
After 10 rounds of play, Go Boyz sit at the apex of the log standings with 22 points, six ahead of second placed Sobu'sa who are tied on 16 points with Nedbank FC.
TNS Rovers are on position four after amassing 15 points the equal number that have been collected by Amabhubesi.
MIA FC have found the going tough and they anchor the log standings with a paltry six points.
Five-A-Side football teams field five players, four outfield and a goalkeeper.
Other differences from association football include a smaller pitch, smaller goals and reduced game duration.
Matches are played indoors, or outdoors on artificial grass pitches that may be enclosed within a barrier or "cage" to the ball from leaving the playing area and keep the game constantly flowing.
Five-A-Side football is an informal, small-sided game with flexible rules, often determined before play begins. The penalty area is semi-circular and only the goalkeeper can touch the ball within it.
There are no offside rules, headers are allowed, and yellow and red cards work similarly to traditional 11-A-Side football.
