After impressing the judges, he was given full marks, scoring 40/40.

Fans of the show were also left stunned, with one saying the dance would 'go down in history'.

Following the dance, judge Anton du Beke said: "Well, good heavens above. I could say it's the best dance of the series and it is by a million miles.

"But that dance is as good as anything we've seen on any series."

Other judges were equally full of praise, with Motsi Mabuse describing the dance as "out of this world".

She added: "This is a moment. This is one of those moments we'll remember in five years."

Meanwhile, Shirley Ballas said: "I'm having an emotional moment. My message is for your family at home, for giving you to all of us so we can enjoy that brilliant work. Well done you."

Craig Revel Horwood clapped his hand primly and said: "I like that - and because it's Halloween, darling, we'll call it a Halloween spooktacular."

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), one viewer said: "The term is thrown around often but that dance from Lewis & Katya was ICONIC. Like that is going down in history, I am speechless."

Another said: "I was getting a bit bored of Strictly this year but wow, that dance from Lewis was like something from Joker! Absolutely brilliant."

A third wrote: "I'm not sure there has been a dance better? I think that was the best dance (at least of the theatre/jazz couples choice) to have ever been on strictly!! Well done Lewis!!"

Other fans said Lewis' dance was "absolutely amazing" and "incredible".

Thomas Skinner and partner Amy Dowden were the first to leave, followed by Scottish presenter Ross King, alongside professional dancer Jowita Przystal.

Last week, former England rugby player Chris Robshaw became the third famous face to be voted off the show.

The day after Robshaw went out, (Monday, October 20), Neighbours actor Stefan Dennis pulled out after injuring his calf.

Former Chelsea star Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was the fourth celebrity to leave Strictly Come Dancing.

Jimmy and professional partner Lauren Oakley left the competition last Sunday (October 26) after losing the dance-off to Amber Davies and Nikita Kuzmin.
