RUSSELLVILLE -- The Eugene Eagles jumped out to a 5-0 lead Wednesday and held on late to pick up a 5-3 victory in the Class 2 District 8 championship game against the Harrisburg Bulldogs.

Drew Hart fired six scoreless innings on the mound to register the win, allowing just two hits while striking out 10 with four walks.

With the win, Eugene (21-8) advances to the Class 2 sectionals for a matchup with Westran (16-7), which won the District 7 title Wednesday with a 5-4 victory against Salisbury.

The game is scheduled for Monday at Westran with no start time yet announced.

The second-seeded Eagles then carried a 5-0 lead into the top of the seventh inning.

Schulte led the way for the first three runs. After he hit an RBI single in the bottom of the first to take the lead for good, he added another run-scoring single in the third before scoring on a wild pitch to make it a 3-0 game.

Jack Libbert added an RBI sacrifice bunt in the fifth, and Garet Wood hit an RBI double in the sixth to create the five-run lead.

Fifth-seeded Harrisburg was able to get the tying run to the plate in the top of the seventh after plating three runs, but Chase Richard was able to limit the damage there to complete the win.
