A weather alert was issued by the NWS Hanford CA on Saturday at 3:11 p.m. for strong thunderstorms until 3:45 p.m. for Kaiser to Rodgers Ridge.
The storms may bring wind gusts of up to 40 mph and pea-sized hail (0.25 inches).
"At 3:09 p.m., Doppler radar tracked a strong thunderstorm 25 miles west of North Lake Campground, or 27 miles west of Aspendell, moving west at 5 mph," says the NWS. "Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible."
The alert is for Tamarack Summit.
The NWS adds, "If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Conditions are favorable for the development of weak, brief funnel clouds. This type of funnel cloud is harmless, but on rare occasions they can briefly touch down, producing wind gusts over 50 mph. If a funnel cloud is spotted move indoors and report your sighting to the National Weather Service. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service."
