Johnny Furphy, Josh Giddey, and Dyson Daniels headline biggest Aussie NBA games to watch in the first month of the season

The 2025-26 NBA season is serving up plenty of blockbusters to open the season.

With 15 Aussies on rosters this season, there's no shortage of marquee matchups featuring your favourite Australian players.

The Sporting News has you covered with the five must-watch games in the opening month of the season.

Following the footsteps of Matthew Dellavedova, the Cleveland Cavaliers have a distinct Aussie flavour this season, with Tyrese Proctor joining Luke Travers in The Land.

While Travers is on a two-way deal with the Cavs, Proctor projects to play a significant role for the Cavaliers this season.

The 6-foot-4 guard will find opportunities hard to come by behind Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland and Lonzo Ball in the backcourt, but his playmaking, 3-point shooting, and IQ will likely earn him decent minutes off the bench.

What better way to start your NBA career than a road trip to Madison Square Garden to face off against the team that will likely be battling the Cavs for top spot in the East this season.

Indiana will be without playoff hero Tyrese Haliburton, but if pre-season is anything to go by, Aussie Johnny Furphy will have a role to play. The second-year wing averaged 10 points on 50 percent shooting in 15.7 minutes through pre-season.

Not to mention the avalanche of poster dunks.

Year 2 looms as a potential breakout season for Furphy, who struggled to see many minutes in his rookie campaign.

Expect plenty of fireworks against the defending champs.

The reigning champs then head to Atlanta to face off against Dyson Daniels and the Hawks.

This matchup is all about Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the reigning MVP and scoring leader up against Dyson Daniels, the best perimiter defender in the league.

An early test for Daniels against SGA, who averaged 33 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in two games against the Hawks last season.

Has there been a happier hunting ground for Josh Giddey than under the bright lights of Madison Square Garden?

Something special happens when Giddey hits the Mecca. In five games at MSG through his career, Giddey has averaged 20 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 9.2 assists, including three triple-doubles.

That puts him behind only Larry Bird (6) and LeBron James (4) for the most triple-doubles at MSG by a visiting player.

Dyson Daniels is coming off a dynamic season for the Hawks. which saw him win Most Improved Player of the Year and finish runner-up in Defensive Player of the Year.

The big question is, can he do it again?

Atlanta boasts an exciting young lineup with Daniels, alongside Jalen Johnson, Zaccharie Risacher, All-Star guard Trae Young, and new additions in NBA champion Kristaps Prozingis and Nickeil Alexander-Walker.

One of the Hawks' most intriguing matchups to start the season, comes against a revamped Orlando Magic team, who after finishing as the No. 7 seed with 41 wins, will look to make the leap and be among the contenders in the East.

This will be the second meeting of the season between these two teams, who face off in the opening week, but the November game in Atlanta will be a better litmus test after a couple weeks of action.
