As first games go, Sean Dyche will oversee quite the big one when he occupies the Nottingham Forest dugout this week.
The 54-year-old was unveiled as Ange Postecoglou's replacement on Tuesday and will be thrown straight in at the deep end. There is little time for him to get his feet under the table.
Porto are the visitors to the City Ground on Thursday (8pm kick-off) as the Reds turn their attention to the Europa League. They have picked up one point from two games in the tournament so far, and Dyche will be eager to increase that tally.
Forest have not won in any competition since the opening day of the season, when Nuno Espirito Santo oversaw a 3-1 victory over Brentford. After a miserable run of form under Postecoglou, they desperately need to turn the tide.
The all-out attacking approach Postecoglou favours proved too big a leap for the Reds after his predecessor's more cautious style. Dyche's ethos is more akin to that of Nuno and he will emphasise the need to get back to basics, at least initially.
The former Everton and Burnley boss has utilised a 4-4-1-1 formation in the past. It would come as little surprise if he adopts something similar for his first match in charge.
In his first interview, Dyche referenced Forest's achievements of last season and how they were built on solid foundations. Centre-backs Nikola Milenkovic and Murillo were integral to that success, so Dyche will surely opt to stick with that tried and tested partnership.
He could opt to bring in Nicolo Savona at right-back and switch Neco Williams to the left. But the likelihood is he will try to instil a bit more defensive discipline in Arsenal loanee Oleksandr Zinchenko.
Dyche will have a dilemma in midfield, though. Ryan Yates seems like the type of player who could thrive under the former Reds trainee, but there are plenty of options in the centre of the pitch.
How Dyche utilises Elliot Anderson will be interesting, given how important the 22-year-old has become for both club and country. Postecoglou packed the midfield during his final game in charge with Douglas Luiz and Ibrahim Sangare lining up alongside Anderson, but it seems likely to be a case of the latter and A.N.Other on Thursday night.
Going forward, Dyche has plenty of attacking talent at his disposal. He must find a way of getting the best out of them - something Postecoglou struggled with.
Taiwo Awoniyi was handed a surprise start up front for Saturday's 3-0 defeat to Chelsea. It was the Nigerian's first competitive action since May so a change will surely be made for the meeting with Porto.
Dyche knows Chris Wood well, after the pair worked together at Burnley. But the New Zealand international - along with wide man Dilane Bakwa - was not involved in training on Wednesday morning. If there is any concern over Wood, it could be Igor Jesus gets the nod for the midweek clash.
One of the new boss' priorities must be to get Morgan Gibbs-White back to top form. But James McAtee, Omari Hutchinson, Arnaud Kalimuendo and Dilane Bakwa will no doubt hope a change of manager leads to more minutes after they were left out of the squad against the Blues.
Predicted Forest XI: Sels; Williams, Milenkovic, Murillo, Zinchenko; Ndoye, Anderson, Luiz, Hudson-Odoi; Gibbs-White; Jesus.
