Sandu says Russia seeks control over Armenia's internal affairs

PanARMENIAN.Net - Moldovan President Maia Sandu has warned that Russia is shifting its foreign policy to expand its influence in countries approaching elections. Speaking to Romania's Rock FM radio, Sandu said Moscow may attempt to interfere in Armenia's internal political affairs.

"Russia did not expect these outcomes and is now reviewing its plans. They will focus on countries where elections are approaching. For instance, elections will be held in Armenia next year, and they will try to take control over the government," Sandu stated.

She stressed that Russia has been actively using propaganda and disinformation tools in several European countries, including Romania, France, and Germany, using methods she says are difficult for ordinary citizens to detect.

According to Auroranews.am, Sandu's comments have received significant international media attention, reflecting growing concerns over Russia's influence operations in both Europe and the South Caucasus.

During Moldova's elections in September, the ruling party, civil society groups, and independent media claimed that Russia attempted to sway the results, with pro-Russian parties and businessman Ilan Șor allegedly offering bribes to voters.
