Major motorway closed over police incident as air ambulance lands

A major motorway has been shut for an ongoing police incident this afternoon (November 1).

Drivers have been stopped in both directions on the M5 as an air ambulance landed on the motorway. The disruption is occurring on the busy motorway between J6 for Worcester and J5 for Droitwich.

It is believed that the incident occurred around 1pm, with an air ambulance landing on the closed off motorway. Other emergency services were also in attendance, with drivers experiencing delays of "at least 80 minutes" at 3pm.

The exact details of the incident are still currently unclear. However, it is believed that the disruption is the result of a 'serious, police-led incident', according to Birmingham Live.

National Highways West Midlands stated: "Traffic is stopped in both directions on the M5 Worcestershire between J6 Worcester and J5 Droitwich due to a police led incident.

"Air Ambulance has arrived on scene alongside other Emergency Services. More information to follow."

The latest update from National Highways informed drivers to be prepared to experience "long delays" of around 80 minutes northbound, and 60 minutes southbound.

The official body noted that drivers should "allow extra journey time" and thanked them for their "patience."

According to traffic alerts on the motorway camera site, normal traffic conditions won't resume until later this afternoon. The alert explained: "M5 northbound within J6 (Droitwich). All lanes are closed. Normal traffic conditions are expected between 16:30 and 16:45 on 1 November 2025."
