Guthrie Binghamton Mental Health helps break stigma for Mental Health Awareness Month

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WBNG) -- May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and Around the Tiers is committed to helping break the stigma surrounding mental health.

This week, we visited social worker and psychotherapist Francis Riso at Guthrie Binghamton Mental Health to learn more about the center's resources.

Francis focuses on trauma-related mental health issues, which he believes are misunderstood. Francis explains a common misconception with trauma related mental issues is that trauma is not the event an individual goes through, but rather the mental state after the event.
