Magic: The Gathering X Avatar The Last Airbender - Release Date, Pre-Orders, Pricing, & Set Details

Originally teased an entire year ago at the 2024 MagcCon in Las Vegas, we're finally getting the full release of Avatar: The Last Airbender X Magic: The Gathering Universes Beyond collaboration. Following hot on the heels of the much smaller Spider-Man crossover set, Avatar: The Last Airbender is offering a much larger selection of cards and products to choose from.

Even though cartoon crossovers with shows like SpongeBob SquarePants and My Little Pony faced controversy over their inclusion in MTG, ATLA could set a new precedent for future crossovers to follow. Combined with the previous MTG X Final Fantasy also setting a new standard for Universes Beyond being legal in the Standard format, you'll have plenty of opportunities to show off your cards from the latest ATLA collaboration.

MTG X Avatar: The Last Airbender Release Date

After a year of waiting, Magic: The Gathering x Avatar: The Last Airbender is officially arriving on November 21, 2025, with the pre-release window scheduled a week beforehand for November 14-20. With Wizards of the Coast already looking towards the 2026 set releases for MTG, ATLA will also be the final Universes Beyond set of 2025.

While you'll have to wait until the official release on November 21 to purchase singles from your local card store or use them in any local competitive matches, you'll still be able to purchase and unpack any of the sealed products during the pre-release window.

Participating in two or more prerelease events will reward you with one of five extra-large collectible dice bags featuring the colors and art of their respective character.

For the pre-release itself, ATLA is offering a unique spin on the event by introducing five separate Pre-release packs themed after different characters from the series, with Aang, Katara, Azula, Zuko, and Tong. While the packs are relatively the same, each includes a single-seeded play booster themed after the character, with each pre-release kit containing the following contents:

* 5 Play Boosters

* 1 Elemental Pack

* 1 Foil Card

* 2 Regular Double-sided Tokens

* 1 Oversized Die

* 1 Deck Box

Although Wizards of the Coast hasn't revealed any information regarding an upcoming MTG Secret Lair collaboration dropping alongside the ATLA set release, it would be more of a surprise if they didn't have at least one in the works to be announced closer to its release. Given that the ATLA collaboration is avoiding its sequel material, a Legend of Korra-inspired Secret Lair wouldn't be too surprising to see in the future.

MTG X Avatar: The Last Airbender Pre-Orders & Sets Explained

Pre-orders for the MTG X ATLA crossover are currently dependent on the store, so you can check various online sites or your local game store to see what's on offer. The official Magic: The Gathering shop page offers pre-order links to TCGPlayer, Amazon, and a local game store locator.

So far, the cards in the MTG X ATLA crossover are split into two major categories: those being the universally legal Avatar: The Last Airbender (TLA), and the limited bonus cards labeled Avatar: The Last Airbender Eternal (TLE). In order to tell the difference between the two, all you have to do is look for the rarity symbol in the middle right or the set tag on the bottom left of each card.

While Aang's head acts as a stand-in for the TLA set, the non-standard legal TLE cards can be spotted by Aang's iconic Air Glider. These act as bonus cards to be used in Commander, Legacy, or Vintage formats, respectively. TLE cards themselves can be found replacing one common out of every 26 play boosters, while Collector's Boosters will each have 4-5 TLE cards of higher rarities.

Individual TLE cards are also legal where already available in other formats, and can be used during Draft events.

Even if there is no Secret Lair collaboration for ATLA currently planned or available for pre-order, Wizards of the Coast did release a limited edition promo variation for Katara, the Fearless, at San Diego Comic-Con, drawn by the artist Yueko, notably being the only card of this type from the set so far.

MTG X Avatar: The Last Airbender Products And Pricing

Going all in on the latest MTG X ATLA collaboration, Wizards of the Coast has a wide variety of products on offer for their latest full Universes Beyond set. This follows a similar format to the previous Final Fantasy crossover, although it notably doesn't offer any preconstructed commander decks.

If you're just looking for crack packs for individual cards to add to your collection, you can purchase Play Boosters for $6.99, deck-building Jumpstart Boosters at $6.99 as well, and lastly, Collector Boosters at a more premium price of $37.99. Although Wizards of the Coast doesn't have an official MSRP on full Booster Pack boxes, these can vary a lot more depending on the supply and demand of each individual set.

In terms of the major content arriving with the MTG X ATLA collaboration, you can purchase the standard Gift Bundle at $69.99, Commander Bundle for $109.99, which includes a Collector Booster, and lastly a displayable Scene Box for $41.99, each with the standard selection of goodies you can expect to unbox.

While it's disappointing that there are no preconstructed decks to jump right into Magic: The Gathering for the first time with the ATLA set, the $34.99 Beginner Box aims to fill the gap with its bundle of starter content. Offering 2 tutorial decks and 8 themed decks with 20 cards each, 2 Playmats, 2 Spindown counters, and more, it's an excellent place to start for any beginner just getting into the tabletop game.

MTG X Avatar: The Last Airbender Set Details

When it comes to the new content arriving with the MTG X ATLA set, Wizards of the Coast has introduced several new mechanics surrounding each of the four bending types from the series, offering flavorful adaptations for you to unleash.

Waterbending is incorporated into the cost of spells for additional abilities that can untap your cards. Earthbending acts as a keyword action to temporarily transform your lands into token creatures with haste to assault your enemies.

Firebending allows you to gain mana whenever the target creature attacks, while Airbending allows you to temporarily exile permanents before bringing them back for 2 generic mana. Even if this color combination raises concerns for Black mana being left out, it's still represented by cards like The Rise of Sozin Saga and other devious creatures or spells.

ATLA also introduces some new stunning visual card types for fans to collect, with full-art Battle Pose cards, Elemental Frame Cards, and more. While only time will tell if Magic: The Gathering's Universes Beyond crossover with Avatar: The Last Airbender will stand the test of time as one of the series' best collaborations, it's already off to a strong start so far with its unique offerings.
