MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - With Thanksgiving just two days away, the City of Memphis made sure families had food on their table.
Tuesday's food giveaway at First Baptist Church-Broad was just one of the city's many MEMgiving events.
Organizers say this highlights the big hearts Memphians have for one another.
"Memphis is one of the most philanthropic cities across the nation. As a matter of fact if you do the research, over the few years it has been shown that no matter what the poverty level is, there are many philanthropic hearts," said Dr. Keith Norman, senior servant leader at First Baptist Church.
Dr. Reginald Boyce, special assistant to Mayor Paul Young, said the events demonstrate community collaboration.
"In order for our city to get better, we got to stop operating in silos. And Memphis has shown there's no one territory, Memphis belongs to all of us. So I'm grateful for the hands on deck," Boyce said.
Another food giveaway happens Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until noon at New Direction Christian Church. Then on Thanksgiving day, the city will be serving a hot holiday meal at Christ Missionary Baptist Church.
