It was a sluggish start for the Indianapolis Colts' offense on Sunday against Tennessee, but Anthony Richardson and the run game sparked a scoring drive on their third possession.
A missed field goal by the Titans set the Colts' offense up with good field position. The possession began with two straight runs by Jonathan Taylor between the tackles for eight yards a piece.
Then, on the third play of the drive, Richardson faked a pitch and ran it himself up the right side for a big 29-yard gain. Shane Steichen then followed those three runs up with two more running plays for Taylor, who picked up a total of seven yards and put the Colts at the Titans' five-yard.
Facing a 3rd-and-3, another designed run for Richardson found the end zone, as he followed Quenton Nelson in for the touchdown.
When it was all said and done, it was six play drive for the Colts that went 57 yards for the score to tie the game. All six of the plays were rushes.
The Colts are going to need more from the passing game, but success for this offense this season is always going to start with the run game. When rolling, the combination of Taylor and Richardson in the backfield can really stress a defense horizontally.
