Alcohol, speed suspected as factors in triple-fatal Saginaw County crash

SAGINAW COUNTY, MI - A head-on crash involving two vehicles on Sheridan Road in Saginaw County this weekend left three people dead and two others injured.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Tri-City Post responded to a personal injury crash in the 3000 block of Sheridan Road, between Williamson and South Washington roads, at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, according to an MSP news release.

A preliminary investigation of the crash revealed a Chevrolet Tahoe traveling northbound was struck head-on by a Chevrolet Equinox that crossed the centerline while traveling southbound, police said.

A 22-year-old Saginaw woman was driving the Equinox at the time of the crash. The driver and a 23-year-old Saginaw woman, who was in the backseat of the vehicle, were transported to a nearby hospital, where they later died from their injuries.

A 23-year-old man in the front passenger seat of the Equinox was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, and a 24-year-old Saginaw woman in the backseat of the vehicle was hospitalized with minor injuries.

The woman who suffered minor injuries has since been released from the hospital and is believed to be the only person involved in the crash who was wearing a seatbelt when the incident occurred, police said.

The driver of the Tahoe was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

Speed and alcohol are believed to have contributed to the fatal crash. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

"This crash is a tragedy, and there are families and a community mourning the loss of young lives," said MSP Lt. Ashley Miller. "Let this be a reminder that seatbelts could save your life."
